If you need to make a round blank from a wooden bar or, for example, a decorative candlestick, then for this it is not necessary to purchase a full-fledged lathe.

In this review, the master shows how you can make a more budgetary design with your own hands - a desktop mini lathe based on an electric drill.

Recommended reading: A simple homemade workshop lathe made of wood.

The author uses a C-shaped profile as the base of the lathe (bed). Cut the workpiece to the desired length.

Three small pieces are cut from the hat profile. They need to be welded to the bottom of the bed.

Then, from two round rods and a piece of steel plate, the master makes a carriage that will move inside the bed. A hand will be attached to it.

You will also need to make two more of these carriages - for the front and rear headstock of a homemade lathe.

To fix the carriage to the profile, a plate with curved edges and a bolt with a nut are used.

The main stages of work

At the next stage, from the pieces of sheet metal and a clamp (you can do it yourself), the author makes a stand for the drill (front headstock).

After that, we assemble the tailstock from pieces of sheet metal and weld it to the carriage.

In the end, it remains only to make a handicraft (caliper) - it should move in the longitudinal and transverse directions.
