On the Internet you can find a huge number of schemes for the manufacture of devices with which you can sharpen drills. However, most often such schemes are very complex and a simple layman cannot understand them. You can, of course, try to sharpen the drill manually on the grinding machine, holding the tool at an angle of 60 degrees. However, in this case, it is very difficult to achieve perfect sharpening so that there is no center displacement. However, there is an alternative - this is a homemade device for sharpening drills, made of a door hinge. Everyone can make such a device.
Features and manufacturing process
The mechanism of operation of a home-made sharpening device is based on the pivoting movement of an ordinary door hinge (you will need a hinge with a metal thickness of at least 3 mm). The lower part of the hinge will be fixed on the handle, and the upper will move the drill. In order to reliably fix the lower part of the hinge on the handrail, you will need to weld a corner of 25x25 mm, then drill a hole in it and cut the thread for the M6 bolt.
At the next stage of work, you need to set the correct angle of sharpening the drill, I use for this a piece of steel corner, which must be welded to the loop, and an ordinary school ruler with a protractor. To check the correctness of the set angle, use a drill with factory sharpening - it should be in contact with the entire plane of the edge of the pen. Next, you will need to weld an M8 stud to the structure with a pre-prepared clamping nut of metal 4 mm thick. The device is ready!
Using such a homemade device, you can easily grind drills on wood and metal of different lengths and sizes. Very useful and easy to use thing.
