The budget and the right way to paint alloy wheels

Casting and forging from the factory are coated with a special durable polymer paint. Over time, an oxide appears in the chips from the stones, which destroys the coating located nearby and increases in size. The reason for the painting may be a color change or poor quality painting, which was done before.
Before painting alloy wheels, it is important to defect them for cracks and the correct geometry (so that there are no "eggs and eights"). You can roll a disk and weld cracks with argon welding in specialized tire workshops. The price of the work will depend on damage and radius.

Paint yourself with spray paint

If you are confident in the condition of the discs, then you can not disassemble the rubber, but simply glue it to avoid paint spraying. For work, we need:

1. Paint and soil in cylinders.
2. Emery paper (gradation Р240-400 for soil, Р800-100 for painting).
3. Masking tape.
4. Newspapers for pasting tires.
5. Degreaser.

First we clean the disks of bitumen (if you use white spirit or gasoline, you should thoroughly degrease it afterwards). First, we grind chips and scratches with larger sandpaper, then we mat the rest of the surface. Powder coated discs

Advantages: coating strength, does not require intermediate primer.
Disadvantages: it can break off in small pieces, lay down on bare metal.
For a more thorough painting, the surface of the discs must be completely cleaned of old paint, there are two ways to do this.

Old paint

We wash off the old coating with a special tool. Rinses are very toxic, work must be done in a well-ventilated area. The most optimal way to apply the composition to the surface, cover tightly with cellophane, so that the chemistry does not dry out, leave for a while (1.5-2 hours). After that, remove cellophane, clean the remnants of old paint with a rag or a soft iron brush. To achieve the result, you need to repeat the procedure several times.

Sandblasting

Advantages: quickly and without residue cleans the surface.
Disadvantages: the cost is about 1000 ₽, if improperly processed, the surface may become too rough (you have to process it with sandpaper).
