The tabletops for the kitchen table or small coffee table made of natural wood and epoxy have a very unusual and colorful visual effect, so that they can transform even the simplest interior, making it elegant and noble.
To make a beautiful countertop made of epoxy resin and wood with your own hands, in addition to high-quality preparation of a wooden surface, you must also correctly mix epoxy with a hardener.
If the recommended mixing ratio of two components (hardener and epoxy resin) is violated, the strength characteristics of the product deteriorate, as well as resistance to chemicals and moisture. Therefore, do everything according to the instructions.
The main stages of work
First of all, we trim the edges of the wooden boards that will be used to make the countertops, and then cut them to size. Next, using a homemade compass, you need to draw the outer borders of the countertop on both sides of the boards. Then we draw wavy lines by hand and cut the workpieces using an electric jigsaw (if there is a band saw, you can perform this operation on it).
At the next stage, using a grinder, we grind the surface and the edge of the boards. Please note that the workpieces must be set horizontally with maximum accuracy so that no sagging occurs during the pouring of the epoxy resin. Wooden blanks are laid on a flat sheet of chipboard, the surface of which is pre-glued with tape.
Then we make the formwork along the edges and pour epoxy resin diluted with hardener in several stages.
After the resin has hardened, the surface and the edge of the countertop should be sanded and coated with another thin layer of epoxy.
