A simple way to revitalize an old tap

Some home masters, especially beginners, do not even realize that a tap, which almost does not cut threads, can still be "revived". It is enough to just slightly correct it.

Surface sharpening of the cutting edge allows you to extend the life of the tool, so you can save on the purchase of new "consumables".

To edit the tap you will need a turning tool (or any other carbide tool). To make it convenient to sharpen the cutting edge of the tap, the tool itself can be fixed in the drill chuck.

Quick sharpening technology

When editing a tap, the most important thing is not to disturb the factory sharpening. To do this, the turning tool must be set so that it repeats the angle of sharpening of the cutting edge.

We expose the cutter at the desired angle, then press it to one of the sides of the tap, and scratch along the entire length.

After that we pass to the remaining two sides. It is enough to make 2-3 passes on each side to make sure.

Anyone with experience and straight arms can fix the emery tap. However, there is a risk of violating the angle of sharpening of the cutting edge.

And with the help of a turning tool, you can edit the tap many times, and at the same time its original size does not go away, which is important.
